What’s wrong with the current mouthwashes?

With so many mouthwashes already in the market it’s difficult to choose what is best for our patients.
Chlorhexidine is a key ingredient for most mouthwashes. That’s despite the fact it is widely recognised that patients tend not to like it.
The taste is not ideal and persists for a long time, plus there is the problem of staining, which in some patients is severe. There is also increased reports of patients developing sensitivity to Chlorhexidine, including hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis. Chlorhexidine isn’t ideal for anything other than short term use.
